This federal regulation requires states, as a condition of Medicaid State plan approval, to operate a preadmission screening and annual resident review (PASARR) program for individuals with mental illness or intellectual/developmental disabilities seeking admission to or residing in nursing facilities. Facility operators must be aware that admissions of individuals with MH or IDD needs are subject to state PASARR review requirements.
