This regulation requires that piped gas and vacuum systems be labeled at regular intervals (no more than 20 feet) using stencils or adhesive markers that identify the gas or vacuum system by name or chemical symbol, color code, and operating pressure where non-standard. Piping must not be painted, and shutoff valves must be identified with the gas/vacuum system name or symbol, the room or area served, and a caution against non-emergency use. These are physical plant and safety labeling requirements applicable to facilities with piped gas and vacuum systems per NFPA 99 standards.
