Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems must comply with NFPA 101 sections 18.5.2.1 and 19.5.2.1 (governing new and existing health care occupancies) as well as section 9.2, and must be installed per manufacturer's specifications. This is a life safety/physical plant requirement applicable to licensed health care facilities inspected under these NFPA codes.
