This regulation establishes fire and life safety requirements for hazardous areas within a facility, requiring either a 1-hour fire-rated barrier with ¾-hour fire-rated doors or an automatic fire extinguishing system with smoke-resisting partitions. Covered hazardous areas include boiler rooms, laundries, repair shops, soiled linen rooms, trash collection rooms, combustible storage spaces, and certain laboratories. Facility operators must document the floor and zone locations of any deficient hazardous areas in the remarks section of the CMS-2786R survey form. This is a CMS Life Safety Code survey tag applicable to existing healthcare occupancies under the 2012 Life Safety Code.
