This regulation establishes fire sprinkler requirements for smoke compartments in healthcare occupancies that have undergone major rehabilitation (modification of more than 50% or more than 4,500 sq ft of the smoke compartment area). Operators must apply automatic sprinkler requirements to any rehabilitated nonsprinklered smoke compartment, and if the building is not fully sprinklered, must also meet additional related fire protection requirements. This is a life safety/physical plant standard referencing NFPA 101 provisions for new and existing healthcare occupancies.
