This Louisiana statute authorizes a civil district court judge to commit eligible incompetent veterans or other persons needing inpatient psychiatric care to U.S. veterans or public health service hospitals. Upon admission, the patient is subject to the receiving hospital's rules, and hospital officials assume the same custodial authority as state psychiatric hospital administrators. The court must notify the patient and provide an opportunity to appear and defend before commitment.
