SUD Treatment and Recovery (Casey's Law involuntary treatment)

Jurisdiction: KY Agency: Kentucky Legislative Research Commission
Plain-English summary

This Kentucky statute establishes the legal criteria that must be met before a court may order a person to undergo involuntary substance use disorder treatment under Casey's Law. All three conditions must be satisfied: the individual must have a substance use disorder, must present an imminent or near-future danger to self, family, or others as a result of that disorder, and must be capable of reasonably benefiting from treatment. This rule governs the threshold for court-ordered commitment and does not itself license or set operating standards for any specific treatment facility type.
