This regulation establishes eligibility requirements for individuals seeking Peer Specialist Certification training in the District of Columbia. Applicants must be DC residents aged 18 or older with at least a high school diploma or GED, and must be either a self-disclosed current or former mental health services consumer or a parent/guardian of a child or youth mental health consumer (for the Family track). Applicants must also demonstrate personal recovery and ability to help others, or familiarity with the public mental health system for children with serious emotional disturbance.
View official source7304 PEER SPECIALIST QUALIFICATIONS Eligible applicants for the Peer Specialist Certification training shall: Be a District resident who is at least eighteen (18) years of age; Have at least a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma (GED); and Be either A self-disclosed current or previous consumer of mental health services or (2) Be a parent or legal guardian of a child or youth consumer who was or is currently a consumer of mental health services (for Certified Peer Specialist – Family); and Demonstrate either (1) Personal recovery and ability to help others with their recovery; or (2) An understanding of the public mental health system for a child or youth with serious emotional disturbance, and involvement with multiple public systems.
