This regulation establishes the foundational principle that hospitals providing inpatient drug and alcohol detoxification services, or combined detoxification and treatment/rehabilitation services, must deliver those services in a manner that adequately meets patients' medical and psychological needs. It applies to hospital-based inpatient SUD detox and rehabilitation programs. Operators must ensure their service delivery standards are sufficient to address both the medical and psychological dimensions of patient care.
